Have you ever felt an intuitive understanding of something before you formally learned it? This puzzling phenomenon is one I experienced profoundly during a pivotal moment in my life.

In 1968, my father treated me to a screening of the classic film “Camelot.” At just six years old, that movie left an indelible mark on my heart. I was enchanted by the tales of King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, and, of course, Merlin—the wise mentor whose insights resonate even decades later.

One particular moment has stayed with me: when Arthur, feeling disheartened, seeks Merlin’s sage advice. Merlin responds with profound simplicity, stating, “the key is to learn something.” This resonant quote, which I have cherished for fifty years, took on new meaning during the recent challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As I navigated the frustrations and anxieties of the sixth week of quarantine, I found myself missing the connection forged in my yoga classes. I yearned to witness the transformations within my students—enhanced mobility, relief from pain, and a renewed sense of calm. However, in that moment of longing, I began to embody Merlin’s wisdom and truly learn, not just recall.

This newfound commitment to learning ignited a spark within me, propelling me to develop an online yoga program that would echo the benefits of in-person practice. I was determined to extend the reach of my teachings on age, grace, movement, and pain relief—both physical and mental.

Rediscovering Purpose through Online Teaching

Feeling disheartened like Arthur, the act of learning how to produce this online course reawakened my previous enthusiasm for teaching. Looking back, I realize that Merlin might very well have been my first yoga mentor, guiding me to understand that teaching is as much about sharing knowledge as it is about fostering connection.

Align and Connect: A Path to Wellness

For both current students and those new to my classes, I have developed a method titled “Feeling Good Again.” The intention is simple yet profound:

  • Increase comfort and relaxation
  • Relieve physical discomfort
  • Enhance overall health and wellness
  • Tone and build strength
  • Save time by learning how to “do it right”

The focus of this program is to address the needs of the body and mind simultaneously, drawing on my extensive experience in yoga instruction. Each session is designed to cultivate awareness and mindfulness, enabling participants to connect more deeply with their well-being.

Expanding Offerings: Standing Poses and Beyond

I am excited to share that standing poses are now available, with plans for future releases that will include back bends, forward folds, twists, balancing, and more! Each component has been carefully curated to adapt to both beginners and seasoned practitioners, ensuring accessibility for all while deepening the practice.

Merlin’s Wisdom for Modern Challenges

Through these offerings, we are reminded of Merlin’s poignant words: “The best thing for being sad… is to learn something.” In our continuously changing world, this sentiment resonates deeply. Learning is not merely an academic pursuit; it is a pathway to resilience. As we grow older, face challenges, and endure uncertainties, the act of learning equips us with tools to cope and thrive.

“You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love… There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.” – Merlin

In conclusion, we find ourselves at a unique crossroad where ancient wisdom is coupled with modern technology. The challenges we face today provide us with the opportunity to cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves through learning and practice. Embrace this journey, explore new avenues of knowledge, and remember: we are always at the cusp of discovering something truly enlightening.

As we navigate this evolving landscape, let us take to heart the beliefs and teachings that empower us to pursue wellness—on our own terms. Join me in this adventure of discovery, growth, and rejuvenation.
